CHAMBERSBURG — Two Franklin County athletes entered Saturday’s Mid Penn Conference track & field championships as the top seed in their event.

And those two produced the area’s only two wins at Trojan Stadium.

Chambersburg senior Abby Yourkavitch ran her last race at her home facility and took first in the 3200 with a time of 10:53.08.

Trojan sophomore Brock Harmon won the shot put with a heave of 52-5, beating his teammate Derek Moore (49-8.75). It’s the fifth straight year Chambersburg won the boys shot put title, after Kelton Chastulik’s four-year reign.

There were four runner-up finishes in the girls events for local athletes. For Chambersburg, Sydnie Gilbert was second in the 100 hurdles in 15.23, the Trojan 4 x 100 relay team placed second in 49.83, while Deja Winkler’s throw of 108-4 was second in the discus (pictured below).

In addition, Keri Gearhart of Greencastle-Antrim was the runner-up in the javelin with a toss of 132-5.

Taking third were the Trojans’ Bre’ya Clopper in the 300 hurdles (46.84) and the 4 x 800 relay team (9:44.95).

Other top-five performances among the girls were Chambersburg’s Shanelle Burrowes in the long jump (fifth, 17-4, pictured at the top of the story) and Winkler in the shot put (5th, 33-5.5).

For the boys, Chambersburg’s Tyeshawn Worrell was fourth in the 100 in 11.01, teammate Nate Reed was fourth in the javelin with a throw of 164-10, and the Trojan 4 x 100 relay was fourth in 43.68. Nick Gustafson of Shippensburg was fifth in the shot put (45-8).
