Softball: Mongold dominates in JB win

Jenna Mongold was in top pitching form for the James Buchanan Lady Rockets on Monday.

Mongold struck out 12 and scattered 3 hits to lead the Lady Rockets to a 1-0 non-league win over Littlestown.

“Jenna pitched another solid game and the defense was good,” JB coach Troy Pittman said.

The junior pitcher retired the side in order in 3 innings, walked just 2 batters and only 1 runner reached second base.

JB (11-4) got the only run it would need in the top of the first. Alyssa Blair, who had 2 of the 4 hits, led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Maddie Bailey, went to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch.

“We struggled to hit, but the Littestown pitcher had something to do with that,” Pittman said. “We were all glad to win, but I see the look in the girls’ eyes we need to improve on hitting and executing. We need to make a few adjustments the next few days of practice. I see a determined look they want to improve.”

The Lady Rockets play again Thursday at Biglerville, 4:15 p.m.
