Chambersburg 7, State College 5: The Trojans won their third straight game to even their record at 6-6 (5-4 MPC Commonwealth) with a road win at State College on Tuesday.
Austin Kopp (3-2) pitched the first 5 innings to earn the win, giving up 9 hits and 4 runs while striking out 5, then Kaden Hoover got a save by hurling two innings, allowing 3 hits and a run.
Chambersburg scored two runs in the second inning, helped by Brady Hughes’ RBI double, two in the third and another two in the fourth, as both scored on a Little Lion error. Kopp scored a run with a double in the sixth.
Kopp, Luke Wetzel (hitting above in an earlier game) and Hughes each contributed 2 hits for the Trojans, while Wetzel and Aaden Newman has runs batted in.
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Chambersburg 104.5, Mifflin County 45.5: The Trojans literally ran all over the Huskies on the track, outscoring them 80-7, including taking all of the first places.
Abby Yourkavitch won the 400 (1:02.0) and 800 (2:28.9) for Chambersburg (4-3, 4-3 MPC), and anchored the winning 4 x 400 team (with Shanelle Burrowes, Bre’ya Clopper and Morgan Mentzer) in 4:24.2.
Ariana Appenzellar took first in the 100 (12.7) and 200 (26.6), and anchored the 4 x 100 team of Clopper, Sydnie Gilbert and Jocelyn Jones to a win in 50.9.
Other winners on the track included Gilbert (100 H, 15.9), Clopper (300 H, 47.7), Kaylee Mowery (1600, 5:39.9), Natalie Aquino-Flores (3200, 13:52), and 4 x 800 relay of Aquino-Flores, Anna DeGrange, Maddie Kinton and Kiera Whitehead (10:49).
In the field, Deja Winkler picked up a win in the discus (101-3) and Ainslee Ackerman won the pole vault (8-6).
Girls set record: The shuttle hurdle relay team of Morgan Mentzer, Manaisha Houser, Caroline Hance and Sydnie Gilbert broke a Chambersburg school record established in 1990 at this past Saturday’s Cedar Cliff Relays.
The former record was held by Kerrie Schoenberger, Denise Zeger, Beth Muehl and Tammy McClanahan. The former record was 1:09.3, this year’s team ran 1:06.54.
BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Chambersburg 121, Mifflin County 29: The Trojans dominated the Huskies, taking first place in all but two events for a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory Tuesday at Trojan Stadium.
In the field, Brock Harmon won the discus (138-5) and shot put (51-6). Other winners were Tyler Luther (pole vault, 11-0), Adrieon Shines (triple jump, 38-0), Nate Reed (long jump, 20-11) and Tucker Perry (high jump, 5-9).
Trentin Overcash had a good day on the track for Chambersburg (5-2, 6-2 MPC), taking the 1600 in 4:40 and the 3200 in 10:19, and ran on the winning 4 x 800 relay (8:28.2) with James Merkle, Matt Hoover and Luke Myers.
Other winners included Keyshawn Jones (100, 11.4), Aaron Maynard (400, 53.5), Thomas Langdon (300 H, 42.5), Myers (800, 2:01.5), Donovan Moses (200, 23.7), the 4x 100 relay (Jayden Jones, Kisla Hilaire, Nate Cooper and Keyshawn Jones, 45.0) and the 4 x 400 relay (Jaime Ramos, Myers, Shane Ambrose and Reed, 3:39.9).
