HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Maddie Eberly drilled a shot into the net in the second overtime to give the Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers a 1-0 victory over Broadfording Monday in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference girls soccer game.
Eberly controlled a pass from Kaitlin Provard and sent a hard, low shot past Broadfording’s goalkeeper for the game-winner for the Blazers (5-2, 4-2 MDCC).
“Statistically (shots and corners) it appears that we were the dominant team,” said CVCS coach Paul Lundy, referring to CVCS’s edges of 12-3 in shots and 5-1 in corner kicks. “However, in reality it was a pretty back-and-forth game. BCA made a keeper switch at half the last time we played them (a 5-1 CVCS win in March). That keeper didn’t allow a goal in the second half of that game and didn’t allow a goal in regulation in this game. Their keeper was excellent in this game and kept us off the board until the second overtime period.
“We did a good job at points of putting pressure on the BCA defense but they held up to every attack. We tried moving players around the field and many different combinations to try to score, but we couldn’t find the back of the net until late in OT.”
Jalen Moats preserved the shutout by stopping three Broadfording shots.
