Big Spring rallies in the last inning to take win away from Greencastle-Antrim softball

The Greencastle-Antrim softball team had just came off a big win over Northeastern last week and looked strong once again, taking an 8-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, but they could not hold off a rally as the Big Spring Bulldogs won in walk-off fashion 9-8 Wednesday at Newville.

Big Spring used a base on balls and three straight singles before the Blue Devils could record an out in the bottom of the last inning.  Two more base hits sealed the deal for the Bulldogs.

It started out well for the Blue Devils, as they produced six runs in the top half of the second inning.  Six singles and a hit batsman produced the six runs.  Big Spring came up with a big inning of their own in the bottom of the second scoring four times off a single, a double, two walks and an error to narrow the lead.

GA added a single run in the fourth when Hannah Beeler reached on a fielder’s choice and then preceded to steal three bases to produce the run.  The Blue Devils got one more in the top half of the seventh as Baylee Schaeffer scored off a wild pitch after pounding out a double.

Schaeffer and Bailee Martin each had two hits for the Blue Devils, who again made contact with the ball as they recorded 10 hits and no strikeouts. Big Spring countered with 12 hits.

Olivia Remenick suffered the set back from the mound, walking six and striking out seven.  The win went to Sadie Groff.  Groff, along with Olivia Monismith, allowed only two free passes.

GA drops to 4-4 overall, 2-3 in the Mid Penn Colonial Division.  It was Big Spring’s first win in the division and second overall as they now stand at 2-6 and 1-3.
