The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers won one of three games last week in Mason-Dixon Christian baseball action. The Blazers started the week with a 9-8 comeback victory over Heritage Monday, dropped a 5-3 decision to undefeated Grace Academy on Thursday, and lost 17-7 to Shalom on Friday in a game that was tied going into the fifth inning.

Against Heritage, Caleb Fisler singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Blazers battled back from a 5-0 deficit. Fisler collected three hits and three RBI for the Blazers (2-1-1, 1-2 MDCC). Jimmy Hong went 2-for-2 and drove in a pair of runs, Josiah Ziebarth contributed two hits, and DeVon Landis stroked a double. Colby Reese blasted a homer and a double for Heritage.

Blake Witter earned the victory with 2 2/3 innings of one-run pitching, striking out six.

In the game against first-place Grace, the Blazers trailed only 2-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning before Grace scored twice in the fifth and once in the sixth to take a 5-1 lead into the last inning. The Blazers got doubles from Cole Heck and Witter in the seventh inning to pull within 5-3, but winning pitcher Todd Stocks retired the last batter to preserve the victory.

Witter and Blaine Minnier each had a pair of hits and Carson Hull doubled for the Blazers. Minnier went the first four innings and suffered the loss despite allowing only one earned run.

In Friday’s game, the Blazers jumped on Shalom for six first-inning runs, highlighted by Hong’s three-run homer. Shalom fought back to tie it at 7-7 and then went ahead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Flames ended the game by scoring eight runs in the sixth.

Heck, Fisler and Landis doubled for the Blazers, and Fisler, Minnier and Hong, who had four RBI, each smacked two hits. For Shalom, Jacob Nicholas tripled, Logan Martin doubled, and Seth Appleby picked up the win.
