Blazers move to 3-0 with 4-2 win

The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers improved their record to 3-0 with a 4-2 victory over Mountain View Christian of Winchester, Va., in a non-league girls soccer game Tuesday.

The Blazers scored three times within the first 12 minutes of the game to take a commanding lead that they carried to halftime. The duo of Kyleigh Teal and Kaitlin Provard teamed up for the first two goals, as Teal scored at the two- and eight-minute marks.

Ryleigh Timmons added a goal at 12 minutes, but Mountain View scored twice in the second half to trim the lead to 3-2. Taylor Heck scored late in the game to provide some cushion as Provard contributed her third assist of the day. Maddie Eberly also had an assist for the Blazers.

“We started off very strong and notched three early goals that gave us quite a cushion,” CVCS coach Paul Lundy said. “Kaitlin made timely and accurate passes that set up her teammates in incredible positions to score. Our defense was strong in the first half and kept MVCA very quiet.  In the second half the injury bug hit and we were down to just one of three regular midfielders.

“With the 3-0 lead we moved some people around and tried some different combinations. MVCA had two opportunities in the second half to even the score, but both shots were turned away by keeper Mackenzie Sites. I am again pleased by how many players are scoring and contributing on offense. It will be difficult for our opponents to zero in on one player to stop with so many scoring options.”
