Baseball: Greencastle defeats Boiling Springs 3-2

The Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devils got back in the win column Tuesday afternoon defeating Boiling Springs 3-2. to improve to 3-0 in the Mid Penn Colonial and 3-1 overall.

The Blue Devils made the most of only four hits on the day, three of those hits produced runs. The Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single By Hunter Harvey to give Greencastle a 1-0 lead, Logan Layton’s RBI single in the third put the Blue Devils up 2-0. The lead held until the top of the sixth inning when Zach Orris  two run single tied the game at 2-2. The Blue Devils came right back in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead at 3-2 on an RBI single by Tanner Rock.

Tanner Rock’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth gave the Blue Devils a 3-2 lead.

The Blue Devils got a strong pitching performance from Rock who went 5 1/3 innings in the game allowing two unearned runs on three hits, walking five and striking out five. Blue Devils ace Nathan Starliper pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to earn the victory  allowing just one hit and striking out four. Starliper struck out the side in seventh to seal the victory for Greencastle.

Nathan Starliper in relief picked up the win for Greencastle going 1 2/3 innings allowing no runs on one hit and struck out four.

Bubbler ace Tayven Kelley pitched the first three innings in the game and Kyle Swartz pitched the final three frames and suffered the loss for Boiling Springs.

The Blue Devils travel to Waynesboro Thursday to take on rival Waynesboro at 4:15 p.m.
