The Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devils softball team picked up their first win of the season with a 12-8 win over a James Buchanan Rocket team that just kept coming back after it appeared the Blue Devils had the game well in hand.

After dropping their opener the day before, the Blue Devils struck early and often against JB, plating three runs in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings.  But each time they would open up big leads, the Rockets would come storming back.  It wasn’t until the bottom half of the sixth until the Devils took an 8-7 lead and stretch it to 12-7.  The Rockets did score one in the top of the seventh, making it 12-8, but that was all they could do.

Olivia Remenick picked up the win, pitching all seven innings for GA.  She allowed seven hits that produced the eight runs.  She struck out two and walked just three.  Defensively, the Blue Devils were charged with four errors.

Liz Pittman started for the Rockets and recorded the loss in her 3 and 2/3 inning appearance.  She was reached for six hits and seven runs while striking out two and walking four.  Jenna Mongold finished the game on the mound for JB allowing four hits and five runs, while striking out two.

Offensively for Greencastle-Antrim, sophomore Baylee Schaeffer went three for four including a double.  Fellow classmate Hailey Dawson also had three hits in her three trips to the plate.  Remenick and freshman Bailee Martin added two hits apiece.

Maddie Bailey and Maria Burkett lead the Rockets in hitting, collecting two hits each.

The Blue Devils are schedule to play Saturday at home against West York in a 12:00 pm start.  James Buchanan returns to action next Thursday with a road trip to Boiling Springs.
