Baseball: Seven run fifth inning propels Greencastle to 8-2 win over Shippensburg

The Greencastle -Antrim Blue Devils broke open a close game with a seven run fifth inning and went on to defeat the Shippensburg Greyhounds at Shippensburg Thursday afternoon.8-2.

Leading 1-0 going to the top of the fifth the Blue Devils bats came alive. Logan Layton singled  and then stole second. Hunter Forney  ripped a two run single to give the Blue Devils a 4-0 lead. Josh Painter doubled to right field sending Forney to third. Cade Marshall reached on an error scoring Forney and the Blue Devils lead 5-0.. Cade McDowell and Jimmy Beavers walked. Tanner Rock and Logan Layton had RBI singles to give Greencastle a 7-0 lead. Lance Layton hit a sacrifice fly to put the Blue Devils up 8-0.

The Blue Devils 12 hit attack was lead Hunter Forney who went 3 for 5. Jake Frey lead the Greyhounds going 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Tanner Rock picked up the victory going six innings allowing two runs on four hits, striking out nine, and walking three.

Greencastle will travel to James Buchanan Friday at 4:30 p.m. while Shippensburg will be at Waynesboro for a 4:15 p.m. contest.
