The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers opened their girls soccer season with a 5-1 victory over Broadfording Christian Academy Thursday in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference game.
Kyleigh Teal scored three straight goals for the Blazers to give the Blazers a 5-0 halftime lead. Isabel Beard opened the CVCS scoring one minute into the game, and Kaitlin Provard added the second goal before Teal put together her hat trick.
“We have a number of players in new positions, and I was very pleased with how they stepped up and played,” said CVCS coach Paul Lundy, whose team outshot Broadfording 14-5. “Kyleigh Teal was awesome from the midfield position, and her three goals late in the first half helped to create separation on the scoreboard. Kaitlin Provard was also phenomenal in the midfield and was always involved in play and distributed the ball well to her teammates.
“The five-goal advantage at halftime allowed us to move players around in the second half and give some younger players an opportunity to gain valuable experience. Hunter Timmons and Sophie Bland helped freshman goalie McKenzie Sites keep BCA off the scoreboard in the first half.”
