BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Chambersburg 3, CD East 1: The Trojans won their season-opening Mid Penn Commonwealth match Tuesday in a competitive contest over the Panthers, 25-23, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-23.

Trojan coach Paul Schlabach said, “CD East has some great blockers. Our outside hitters Josiah Picard and Steve Swain carried our offense in the first two games. Once CD East’s defense started to key on them, we were able to work our full offense more effectively and force their blockers to move around more.”

Chambersburg found itself behind for most of the fourth game, including by 5 at one point. But the Trojans came back, as Will Simmers scored 3 of the final 4 points to close out the win.

Swain (16) and Picard (15) led Chambersburg in kills. Trey Stepler had 8 kills, 16 digs and 3 block assists, while Jake Misal had 13 digs.

At Saturday’s Hempfield Tournament, the Trojans went 7-1 in pool play to finish in first place, beating Wilson, Penn Manor and Souderton each 2-0 and going 1-1 vs. Hershey. But Chambersburg fell in the first round of playoffs to Governor Mifflin.

Schlabach said, “Governor Mifflin played well, but we also gave them a lot of momentum by making a lot of errors.”

Simmers (18) and Picard (17) led in kills, Spencer Rajtik had 16 assists and Wesley Newman led in digs with 24.
