Shippensburg traveled to Mechanicsburg for the Class 3A section 3 wrestling championships to compete against the big powers of the Mid State region. The Greyhounds moved four wrestlers to the District 3 tournament on Thursday at the Giant Center.
Cole Forrester continued his push toward a PIAA title with his title at the Section championship at 220. He picked up two falls at 5:40 and 1:58 on his way.
Dylan Ramsey and Jeffrey Russell both qualified to move on. Ramsey dropped his championship match to Cedar Cliff’s J. J. Wilson on a 15-4 major decision and Russell came back through the consolation bracket to edge Evan Chapman of Northern for third place. Russell dropped his big match 4-3 to eventual champion Creed Bogardus of Cedar Cliff.
Eddie Ocker at 160 picked up a fall but fell to the consolation brackets via fall. He picked up a fall and two decisions to rally for third place.
Colton Musser rallied to take a fifth place in the 195 bracket and will be an alternate. He defeated Dylan Rodenhaber, who had earlier knocked him into the loser’s bracket.
Other wrestlers for the Greyhounds included Tristyn Keefer, Owen Diehl, Trevor Diehl, Ian Reed, Kohl Holderbaum, Sterling Shetter Aiden Reed, and Aaron Rauber.
Rauber and Holderbaum each won their first match before falling into the consolation match.
Shippensburg finished in sixth place with 107.5 points, behind Cumberland Valley (175). Chambersburg (160.5) barely edged Northern (159) and Cedar Cliff (158.5) for second place. Carlisle finished fifth with 116 points.
