FREDERICK, Md. – The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers held New Life Christian to only 10 points over the final three quarters and came away with a 42-27 victory Tuesday night in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference boys basketball game.
The Blazers (6-12, 4-7 MDCC) trailed 17-15 after the first quarter but pulled ahead 25-21 at halftime before limiting New Life to one point in the third quarter. The Blazers forced 24 turnovers as they broke a five-game losing streak.
“We were able to get back to what we’ve wanted to do on defense, and we let the defense create our offense,” Blazers coach Austin Sanders said.
Jesus Pena led the Blazers with 16 points, seven steals and four assists. Caleb Eckert added 14 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.
The Blazers return home for games Thursday against the Frederick Warriors and Friday against Heritage Academy.
