Blazers drop game at Heritage

HAGERSTOWN, Md. –The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers were outscored 37-24 in the second half en route to a 61-44 defeat to Heritage Academy Thursday evening in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference boys basketball game.

The Blazers (5-11, 3-6 MDCC) trailed only 24-20 at the half. They were down 50-42 midway through the fourth quarter but misfired on three straight possessions in which they had opportunities to cut into the lead.

Caleb Eckert led CVCS with 17 points and 10 rebounds, Jesus Pena added 16 points, three assists and three steals, and Blaine Minnier contributed eight points and seven rebounds as only four Blazers cracked the scoring column. Machai Nelson led Heritage with 23 points.

“It’s hard to win a game when the other team shoots almost 20 more free throws than you do,” said Blazers coach Austin Sanders, whose team was outscored 19-5 from the foul line.
