Chambersburg boys win Gettysburg title

Terell WilliamsGETTYSBURG — Chambersburg’s boys basketball team broke out to an 18-7 lead after one period, never let Solanco back into the game Thursday, and earned the championship of the Gettysburg Lions Club Tournament.

It was 34-19 at halftime, then the Trojans (7-2) put the game away with a 17-5 advantage in the second half.

“The team had an excellent focus prior to the game and it carried over into our play,” Trojan coach Shawn Shreffler said. “We executed very well and I was pleased with how we showed patience offensively and shared the ball. We had good balance.”

Joel Torres led the scoring with 14 points, Noah Beidel hit a trio of threes for 9 points, Tyler Collier also had 9, and Terell and Tyron Williams each scored 8 points. Terell Williams (pictured above) was named the tourney’s Most Valuable Player.

The 67 points was a season high by 8 points for Chambersburg. It’s also the fourth time in nine games the Trojans have held their opponent to fewer than 40 points.

Shreffler said, “Our defense made a lot of good things happen, which also resulted in some easy offense. We got better today and received great contributions from all of our guys.”
