Chambersburg boys reach championship game at Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG — A fine defensive second half, combined with unusually effective foul shooting, carried Chambersburg over South Western, 48-27, in the first round of the Gettysburg Lions Club Tournament on Wednesday night.

The Trojans (6-2) will face Solanco, which beat Gettysburg 55-54, in the championship game tonight at 7:30.

Field goals were hard to come by — the teams combined for only 22 baskets made. But Chambersburg made 22 of 28 free throws to just 4 of 8 for the Mustangs. Tyler Collier, who has struggled at the line, led the way by going 6-for-6.

South Western led 18-17 at halftime, but the Trojans clamped down on defense in the latter half, outscoring the Mustangs 31-9. It was 27-22 after 3 quarters, then Chambersburg made 11 of 15 foul shots in the final 8 minutes.

Terell Williams scored 12 points to pace Chambersburg, which snapped a two-game skid, and Joel Torres added 9. Collier and Seth Brouse each had 6 points.
