CHAMBERSBURG — A flurry of scoring late in the first half gave Carlisle a comfortable lead over Chambersburg and the Thundering Herd went on to hand the Trojans their 10th loss in 10 games on Friday night at Trojan Stadium.

Keyshawn Jones scored for Chambersburg on an 18-yard run with 5:41 left in the second quarter to draw his team to within 9-7 of the Herd in a Mid Penn Commonwealth matchup.

But Carlisle (5-5, 1-5 MPC) scored three touchdowns before the half ended to enter the break with a 30-7 lead. Tristyn Sulich and Gavyn Barnes each ran for a short touchdown and Barnes completed a 38-yard scoring toss to Rojen Porcopio. Barnes’ run came with just 9 seconds remaining.

The Herd put on two more TDs and a field goal in the third period to lead 47-7. In the final quarter, the Trojans (0-10, 0-6 MPC) came up with a pair of touchdowns, on a 29-yard run by Tyaire Durant and a 34-yard interception return by Carmen Pompeii.

Jones ran 15 times for 129 yards and ended his sophomore season with 693 yards on 121 carries (5.7 average), and scored six touchdowns.

Chambersburg hit on only 3 of 16 passes for 35 yards and had one pass picked off.

For Carlisle, Barnes ran for 157 yards on 14 carries, and completed 6 of 12 passes for another 179 yards. The Herd racked 540 yards of offense, compared to 279 for the Trojans.
