The Shippensburg Greyhounds celebrated homecoming Friday night by beating Greencastle-Antrim 28-18.
The Greyhounds lead 13-3 at halftime before a couple of turnovers pumped some life into the Blue Devils. A fumbled snap by Shippensburg gave the gave the ball to the Blue Devils deep into Greyhound territory, a few plays later Brad Shearer was able to punch it in and cut the lead to 3. Not long after that, a bad punt snap from Ship resulted in a safety. G-A had captured the momentum.
Later in the third G-A quarterback Cade McDowell connected with Shearer for a 48-yard catch and run that gave the Blue Devils an 18-13 advantage.
The yin and yang of momentum continued into the fourth quarter when a fumble by G-A was scooped up by Shippensburg’s Nick Weltz and returned to the G-A 5-yard line. A few plays later Carter Van Scyoc hooked up with Adam Houser for the go-ahead touchdown. Following a two-point conversion the Greyhounds would take the lead, 21-18.
Van Scyoc and Houser hooked up twice for touchdowns and each rushed for one.
G-A, down 21-18 had one last chance when they got the ball on their own 15 with 2:40 remaining, after a couple of failed run plays the Greyhounds Cain Fridinger came up with an interception that basically sealed it.
Ship would add the icing when Van Scyoc connected with Houser for a 10-yard touchdown.
Greencastle, now 2-5 will host Waynesboro next week. Shippensburg, 5-2, hosts Northern York.
