GIRLS SOCCER

Chambersburg 3, Red Land 2: Gabby Lecuona scored a goal with 16 seconds left in regulation to lift the Trojans to a come-from-behind Mid Penn Commonwealth victory over the Patriots on Thursday afternoon.

“The team did an excellent job of possessing the ball and staying positive, even after giving up two early goals,” Chambersburg coach Ed Franchi said. “We played really well.”

After Red Land took a 2-0 lead 20 minutes in, Lauren Ocker got the Trojans (5-10, 2-9 MPC) closer with a goal before halftime, knocking in a cross from Lecuona. Layne Kimple tied the score 2-2 in the 70th minute, then Hana Bellows made a perfect through pass that Lecuona drove into the net for the game-winner. Lecuona has eight goals this season.

Chambersburg 3, Red Land 0: The Trojans were tied 0-0 at halftime, but opened up after the break to win their Mid Penn Commonwealth finale over Red Land.

“We played well collectively tonight,” Trojan coach Corey Grove said. “We had to be patient to get the first goal. Our possession was much better than Tuesday, mostly due to our movement off the ball being better.”

Asher Schwartz scored his ninth goal of the season, Griffin Redding converted a penalty kick and Omario Duncan knocked in his seventh of the season and fifth vs. the Patriots.

Chambersburg raised its record to 10-3-3 (8-2-2 Mid Penn). The win may have sealed a home game in the first round of the District 3 playoffs.
