Norcross earns MPC title: Chambersburg junior Mary Kate Norcross captured her second straight Mid Penn Conference golf championship on Wednesday. She shot a 6-over par 76 at Armitage G.C. to take the win by 7 strokes over Hershey’s Amanda Gerrish.
“I’m proud of her,” Trojan coach Mark Yost said. “To be the defending champion and win again is a wonderful thing. She bogeyed her first hole and was three over after five holes, but then she held it together. It was nice to win by seven strokes and that should give her confidence for districts next week.”
The District 3 event is next Friday and Saturday at Briarwood West. Joining Norcross at districts will be Greencastle-Antrim’s Amanda Steier, who shot 89 to finish in a tie for seventh place.
Chambersburg freshman Megan Brandt missed the cut by five strokes. Yost said, “She had four bad holes that really cost her.”
