CROSS COUNTRY
Girls: Herd slips past Trojans, 26-30: In the showdown for a likely Mid Penn Commonwealth Division title, Carlisle put runners in the 2, 3, 4 and 6 positions to edge Chambersburg. It was the Trojans’ first loss since 2014 and snapped a 21-meet win streak.
Abby Yourkavitch won the race in 19:03 for the Trojans (4-1), but the next teammate to finish was Sydney Parson in fifth (20:50). Chambersburg then took 7-through-10, with Kaylee Mowery (21:11), Kyleena Purvis (21:12), Kiera Whitehead (21:14) and Maddie Kinton (21:18).
Trojan coach Chris Monheim said, “Abby made a 19:03 look easy on a very warm day, but we weren’t able to back her up as much as needed.
