wThe West Perry Mustangs crashed Greencastle-Antrim’s homecoming with a 38-35 victory at Kaley Field on Friday night.
The teams combined for almost 1,000 yards of offense in a shootout that saw the Blue Devils get a chance down the stretch, only to be foiled by a costly penalty and failed 4th down attempt.
Starting with the ball on their own 38, with 6:15 left in the game, the Blue Devils had a chance. Cade McDowell broke for 22 yards on a fourth and three to get to the Mustangs’ 38-yard line. On fourth and three at the Mustang 26, G-A committed a costly penalty that stalled the drive, and any chance for a Blue Devil victory.
“When you score 35 points, you’re supposed to win,” Greencastle coach Chuck Tinninis said. “But you know, it’s a team sport, a team effort. A game never comes down to one play. It’s a bunch of plays.”
The Mustangs senior quarterback Dom Salinetro threw for 388 yards and four touchdowns, connecting with Terrance Quaker for 225 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Isaiah Peck lead the attack for G-A, running for 199 yards on 15 carries, Brad Shear racked up 90 yards on the ground while McDowell threw for 70.
The Blue Devils will look to grab their second win next Friday, when they travel to Mifflin County.
