GIRLS TENNIS
Chambersburg 4, Red Land 1: The Trojans picked up their first win Friday, handing Red Land a defeat in a Mid Penn Commonwealth match. Maddy Mellinger (No. 1), Hope Sprecher (No. 2) and Caroline Hance (No. 3) swept the singles matches, all in straight sets. At No. 2 doubles, Aubrey Carlin and Kaylin Shearer earned a win in a tiebreaker.
CROSS COUNTRY
Abby Yourkavitch wins PTXC 9 race: The Penn Track X-C meet was held Saturday at Kutztown and Chambersburg senior Abby Yourkavitch picked up a gold medal — going wire-to-wire in first place — in the Girls Gold race. She ran a time of 18:53.95 to beat Souderton’s Emily Souderton (19:01.62).
The Trojan girls finished seventh in the team standings. Also scoring were Keira Whitehead (34th), Sydney Parson (45th), Ana DeGrange (55th) and Kayle Mowery (81st).
Chambersburg’s boys placed 13th, led by Trentin Overcash (32nd), Chris Diaz (57th), Donovan Hazelton (79th), Patrick Zook (86th) and Orion Kimberly (96th).
BOYS SOCCER
Chambersburg 1, Carlisle 1: The Trojans (1-1-1, 1-1-1 MPC) scored in the second half to earn a tie with the Herd. Chuy Munoz scored and Griffin Redding was credited with the assist.
GIRLS SOCCER
Carlisle 2, Chambersburg 1: The Herd trailed 1-0 until they tied it with 17 minutes left, then won it on a goal by Liz Weis with just 45 seconds left. For the Trojans (2-3, 0-3 MPC), Gabby Lecuona scored her third goal of the season.
