The Shippensburg Greyhounds built a 35-0 halftime lead and held off Dover in the second half to register a 35-26 win.Carter Van Scyoc threw for four touchdowns in the first half, including two to Nick Gustafson the second one for 80 yards, and one each to Adam Houser and Ethan Stouffer.
Stouffer also recovered a fumble and ran 55 yards for a touchdown.
With a 35-0 lead and the mercy rule in effect which means the clock keeps running except for timeouts, scores and injuries, Dover scored on its opening second half drive and scored 26 unanswered second half points to get within striking distance of the Greyhounds. Shippensburg ended the Dover comeback when they took over on downs with 1:48 to play.
Shippensburg is 1-0 and will host Chambersburg in Week 2 which suffered a 28-7 loss to Greencastle.
Carter Van Scyoc was 8 for 13, 220 yards and 4 touchdowns in the first half.
