Hunter Ward’s 3 Hit Day helps propel Southern Fulton into the District Finals

Sr Hunter Ward collected three hits in three bats as Southern Fulton (19-4) easily defeated Fannett Metal 10-0 on Thursday at the Forest Mellott Sports Complex in Warfordsburg. Ward singled in the second inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the fourth inning.

The Indians scored six runs in the fifth inning, cruising to the five-inning victory. Mark Fitz singled, scoring one run; Austin Mann drew a walk, scoring one run; Ethan Mellott drew a walk, scoring one run; Kaiden Schriever singled, scoring two runs; and Ward singled, scoring one run to end the game.

Southern Fulton got on the board in the first inning after a fielding error scored two runs.

A single by Ward extended the Southern Fulton Indians lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning. The opportunistic Indians added to their lead on a double play in the bottom of the third inning.

Paul Hendershot earned the win for Southern Fulton. The sophomore starting pitcher allowed one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out three and walking none. Landon Arnold took the tough loss for Fannett Metal. The starting pitcher went four and one-third innings, allowing 10 runs (six earned) on seven hits, striking out five and walking three.

Southern Fulton piled up nine hits in the game. Jett Burger and Joel Fitz each collected multiple hits for the Indians. Ward stole two bases.

Adam Hammond led Fannett Metal with one hit in two at-bats.

Southern will play the #1 seed, Conemaugh Township, in the District V Championship game next Wednesday at a site and time to be determined.
