Trojan girls lacrosse falls in 1st round of districts

READING — The best season ever for the Chambersburg girls lacrosse team came to an end Friday night.

The Trojans made their debut in the District 3 Class 3A playoffs as the No. 9 seed, and had to travel a long way to face the No. 8 seed, Exeter Township. The Eagles controlled the draws and were able to hand Chambersburg a 17-8 defeat.

That ended Chambersburg’s season with an 11-7 record. The Eagles (13-6) play top seeded Cumberland Valley (18-0) in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

“We just could not win enough draws — that was our Achilles heel,” Trojan coach Shane Henry said. “Outside of that, we matched them pretty evenly.”

The two highlights for Chambersburg were Adele Henry reaching the 100th-career point mark and the team creating 17 caused turnovers.

Brynn Sekel produced 3 goals, 3 caused turnovers, 3 groundballs and won 7 draw controls for the Trojans. Adele Henry recorded 2 goals, 3 CTOs and 3 groundballs.

Also on the stat sheet were  Jordyn Sprankle (2 goals), Reagan Barrett (1 goal, 1 assist, 1 CTO), Ava Daywalt (3 CTOs, 1 groundball) and goalie Reese Heverley (12 saves).

Chambersburg will lose only two seniors to graduation — Sophia Perrera and Addison Flack.

“We will miss the two seniors, but we have 11 of the starters back for next season, which is exciting,” coach Henry said. “We have had an amazing season; so much to be proud of.”
