SHIPPENSBURG — The District 3 Track & Field Championships got underway on a near perfect day Friday afternoon at Shippensburg University and 11 Franklin County athletes picked up medals with top-8 finishes.
Drake Wagner of Shippensburg out-dueled teammate Ayden Foust in the shot put for the gold medal, scoring the winning throw of 56-1.75 feet. Foust placed third with a throw of 54-10 — both marks were personal bests for the Hounds.
Chambersburg’s Okenie McLaughlin was a runner-up in the boys triple jump, despite the fact that he hit a PR of 48-0.5. New Oxford’s Brayden Billman took off for a leap of 50-4, which is ranked among the top 25 in the U.S. Both hit their best jumps on their first attempt.
The Trojans’ Julian Clark posted a time of 9:23.9 to place fourth in the boys 3200, just 6 seconds behind the winner, Travis Furmanski of Cedar Crest. Ship’s Rylan Asper placed 7th in 9:27.41.
Olivia Coy of Chambersburg earned a fifth-place medal in the girls triple jump with a PR effort of 36-1.25.
Greencastle-Antrim had a pair of placewinners in the pole vault. For the girls, Alyssa Fowler hit a PR 11-6 to place fourth, while Joe Lofton tied for 7th in the boys competition at 13-6, also a PR.
In girls Class 2A, James Buchanan’s Alexis Martin placed 4th in the javeln (107-3) and took eighth in the high jump (4-10). Teammate Ainsley Green was fifth in the javelin (106-11).
The Rockets’ star sprinter, Cheyenne Eby, set herself up for tomorrow’s finals in the 100 and 400 races. She had the best mark in the prelims in the 100 (12.41) and in the 400 (59.84).
