GIRLS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 51, Shalom Christian 48: The Trojans sank 17 of 19 attempts from the free throw line and were just able to hold off Shalom Christian by 3 points in a non-league game in Marion on Saturday afternoon.
Maddie Mills tossed in a career-high 28 points for Chambersburg (2-19), including 12 in the final quarter (4-for-4 from the line), to keep the Trojans ahead. The Flames (14-5) made a comeback in the fourth, outscoring Chambersburg, 21-15.
Trojan coach Jamiur King said, “You can’t take anything away from Shalom — they will make a deep District 3 run and most likely the same in states. They are scrappy and stay connected on both sides of the ball.”
For the Flames, ranked No. 2 in Class 2A in District 3, Addison Adams led with 16 points, Emily Rebok added 14 and Sydney Moore scored 12.
The next highest scorer for Chambersburg was Tori Price, with 6 points.
King said, “Hitting 17 of 19 from the foul line was a great indicator that we were focused today when it mattered. Despite having four more turnovers, we played with a lot of grit and composure considering we’ve been in those situations previously and have struggled to complete the game.”
