Trojan boys, girls each claim wins at Mid Penn swimming

NEW KINGSTOWN — The first day of the Mid Penn Swimming Championships went very well for Chambersburg on Friday night at Cumberland Valley H.S.

The Trojan boys won a relay and two individual events and are in contention for the team title. Chambersburg’s girls also picked up one victory, breaking a long winless streak.

Calla Hoffman went more than 2 minutes (2.62) under her seed time and placed first in the girls 100 butterfly. Hoffman’s time of 59.72 edged out Northern’s Olivia Kimmel (55.79).

The last Trojan girl to win an event at the Mid Penns was Kristen Montello in the 50 free in 2006.

Amir Tasker was the big winner for the Chambersburg boys, hitting the wall first in the 200 freestyle and the 100 fly, and anchoring the 200 medley relay team to a win. He and Luke Ritchie, Ethan White and Cristian Pong finished in 1:36.13.

Tasker took the 200 free in 1:40.67, placing just ahead of teammate and runner-up Alex Kaczmark (1:41.93). In the fly, he posted a time of 50.13 to edge out teammate Pong (50.27).

Boys coach Chad White said, “We did so well tonight and it was so much fun to be a part of. We made up a lot of ground on CV and Hershey and put us in position to give it a shot tomorrow on the final day. We have boys in great spots tomorrow in every event except the breaststroke.”

The 200 freestyle relay of Kaczmark, Pong, White and Ritchie claimed third place (1:27.58), and White (1:57.20) and Cullen McGraw (1:58.13) went 3-4 in the 200 IM. Also, Xavier Covington was 13th in the 100 fly and Ritchie took 15th in the 50 free.

The Chambersburg girls placed fifth in the 200 medley relay, with the team of Hoffman, Ava Grove, Audrey Keller and Brooke Reichelderfer hitting a time of 1:55.42 to drop more than a second off their previous best.

Also, Keller was 13th in the 100 fly and the 200 freestyle relay team of Addie Zimmerman, Graciana Clark, Emma Skultety and Reichelderfer took 16th in 1:55.10.
