Chambersburg 51, Red Land 24: The Trojans jumped their record up to 13-5 and helped their chances for qualifying for the District 3 Team Championships with a victory over the Patriots on Wednesday night in Etters.

Chambersburg was ranked No. 15 before the match and the top 16 teams qualify for the first-ever district team tournament.

“The girls came out really hungry tonight and handled their business against a really well-coached and seasoned Red Land team,” Trojan coach Josh Sherman said.

One key bout came at 130. Piper Jones was leading 3-1 after one period, but got taken down to her back. She managed to get off her back trailing 8-3, but before the end of the period she reversed Claire Simcox and got 4 nearfall points to lead 9-8. There was no scoring in the final period, although Simcox rode the entire 2 minutes.

Sherman said, “I was pleased with how Piper wrestled against an experienced senior. She got out of position in the second and had to fight off her back. I was really proud of how she fought back and won a gritty match.

“Also, Makenna Lowe bumped up to 190 and got a big pin for us.”

The other highlight for the Trojans came at 136, where Reagan Evans scored a pin in 31 seconds — it was her 50th career win, with 40 of them coming by pin.

Also producing pins for Chambersburg were Emily Shaffner (100), Jessica Li (106), Alba Rojas (142) and Aulana Stanton (170). Daryn Glasgow (155) and Lillybeth Alcantaras (235) each won by forfeit.
