Chbg. roundup: State College sweeps Trojans in basketball

BOYS BASKETBALL
State College 52, Chambersburg 50: The Trojans had possession of the ball in the final seconds with a chance to tie or win, but came up short and dropped a Mid Penn Commonwealth decision to the Little Lions on Friday afternoon.

Landon Buhrman

“We gave ourselves a chance, but just didn’t execute the last play well enough,” Chambersburg coach Shawn Shreffler said. “We were closer to playing a complete game than we have all season, but a lack of poise at the start of the third quarter really hurt.”

The Trojans (2-3, 2-3 MPC), who have lost 4 of their last 5 games, held a 26-18 lead at halftime. But State College (6-3, 3-1 MPC) outscored the visitors 21-10 in the third.

Shreffler said, “We needed to play better in that situation. However, we fought back with some great defensive pressure and solid executing offensively to give ourselves a chance.”

Colton Cornwell led Chambersburg with 19 points, including going 8-for-8 at the foul line. Landon Buhrman added 13 points. The Trojans hit 13 of 14 free throws and SC hit 10 of 13.

For State College, Mikah James scored 16 and Nick Carr had 13.
