Blue Devils win team tournament: Greencastle-Antrim’s boys wrestling team had a very nice day in York on Saturday, winning six consecutive dual meets to claim the championship of the TWC Trojan Battle Duals at York Suburban.

According to a team source, this was the program’s first team trophy since it placed third in a sectional tournament in 1997.

“We expected to win a couple and were hoping for a top-three finish,” G-A coach Brandon Crouse said. “We’ve been hit by the flu bug over the last couple of weeks, but having everybody back for today really helped.”

The Blue Devils defeated, in order, York Suburban (35-32), Mechanicsburg (42-30), Wyomissing (52-24), Pocono Mountain West (40-33), Abington (45-26) and Garden Spot (44-27). In the first dual, a 6-1 decision by Ben Hansen at 215 took G-A’s lead to 35-26, so with Suburban getting a forfeit at 285, that win clinched it.

Against Pocono Mountain West, Greencastle (7-1) built a lead of 40-6 before 5 wins to close it out for PMW made it close.

Five individuals were undefeated for the day for the Blue Devils: Landon Hinkle was 6-0 with 6 pins; Aidan Crouse went 6-0 with 5 pins, Chance Zimmerman was 6-0 with 4 falls, Jansen was 6-0 with 3 pins and Jackson Polifka was 6-0.

In addition, four others produced winning records. Silas Robertson went 5-1, Damien Johns and Carter Startzman each went 4-2 and Kahl Cordell finished at 3-2.

Coach Crouse said, “It was just an incredible effort from everybody — we went 47-13 in our matches, and it’s been a while since we’ve done something like that. We had kids move up a weight to put us in position to win, and we had kids stay off their backs to help.

“We brought up some ninth-graders this year and they’ve stepped up, and the team in general is working hard to get better.”
