McConnellsburg 45, North Star 43.  

Sydney Buterbaugh’s game-winning clutch deep three-pointer secured the Spartans victory, giving them a two-point lead in the final seconds of a cross-conference game at North Star on December 11^th.

The Lady Spartans (3-1, 0-0 ICC-S) outscored the Lady Cougars, gaining the lead in the first quarter and holding until late in the fourth quarter.  Both teams scored evenly in the middle quarters.  In the fourth, the Cougars surged ahead after the first time and took the lead with 30 seconds left.  With 8.8 seconds remaining, a Cougar possession resulted in a costly turnover.  The Spartans hit their next shot, the critical 3-pointer, despite being limited to then to three points in the quarter.

North Star’s scoring was limited by the Spartan defense. Brooklyn Galvin contributed with scrappy play, collecting deflections, making steals, and forcing turnovers. Additionally, eight different Spartans helped control the boards by outrebounding their opponents.

The Spartans’ win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances.  Serenity Rengifo led all scorers with 16 including five 3-pointers, and six rebounds. Marin DeShong put up seven points.
