Chbg. roundup: Girls soccer team rallies for OT win

GIRLS SOCCER
Chambersburg 3, Washington, WV 2: Malia Cramer had a huge game, including scoring the winning goal with 19 seconds left in the second overtime, to lead the Trojans to a non-league win over the Patriots on Thursday night at Trojan Stadium.

Malia Cramer

Chambersburg (1-2) trailed 1-0 and 2-1 against the defending West Virginia state champions, but each time, Cramer had the answer. Her second goal tied the game 2-2 in the final minute of regulation.

In the first OT, Bree Paetow had an apparent goal disallowed, but Cramer controlled a loose ball and ripped in a shot from 12 yards out to grab the win in the second OT.

Chambersburg coach Paul Unruh said, “Although both of Washington’s goals came from poor defending, all of our players simply refused to give up and we presented wave after wave of offense. Marley Onomastico was a particular standout on defense.”

Onomastico and Kadence Decker each had an assist.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Chambersburg 3, Red Lion 1: The Trojans took a 2-0 lead on wins of 25-14 and 25-18, then split the next two sets with the Lions to pick up a non-league match at CASHS Field House on Thursday night.

Ava Zeigler

The third set went to Red Lion 25-17, and the Trojans (2-1) took the fourth by a 25-19 score.

“This has been a long week of volleyball for us and the girls were tired,” Chambersburg coach Ty Frelin said. “But they played hard and were determined to bounce back after our loss to CV on Tuesday. It was a nice win.”

Ava Zeigler racked up 37 assists and also led the Trojans with 15 service points, including 4 aces.

Kacey Moser led in kills (13) and had 24 digs, while Nizaya Hawkins put up 9 kills. Kaylie Stull posted 14 points (4 aces) and led with 29 digs.

Also, Lexi Poe had 7 kills and 20 digs, Kylee Perry had 7 points, and Riley Cramer blocked 3 shots and Olivia Shearer had 2.

Frelin said, “Both teams played great defense, which resulted in some long rallies and some great volleyball. Our girls served well and we got a lot of block touches. That allowed  us to run an effective offense.”
