Greencastle 11-12 moves to District Championship game with 10-2 win over Pen Mar

NEWVILLE-Greencastle 11-12 All Stars defeated Pen Mar 10-2 Tuesday night to secure their spot in the District 14 Championship game against Newville or South Middleton, who postponed their game until Wednesday night. The championship game is now scheduled for Thursday night at South Middleton at 7:00 p.m.

Grayson Booher went 3 2/3 innings in the game, allowing two runs on two hits. Striking out eight and walking three. Kohen Mann pitched 2 1/3 hitless innings, striking out three to wrap up the win for Greencastle.

Greencastle used a 12-hit attack, all singles, scoring at least one run in their final four at-bats. Greer Barkdoll, Kohen Mann, and Kyler Myers collected two hits each to pace Greencastle.

After a 1-2-3 first inning, Greencastle got the bats going in the bottom of the second inning, as Kohen Mann and Brody Sprague each produced a run-scoring single to stake Greencastle to a 2-0 lead.

Greencastle made it 3-0 in the bottom of the third on a single by Greer Barkdoll, and extended the lead to 5-0 on a two-run single from Ethan Allen.

Pen Mar cut the gap to 5-2 in the top of the fourth on an RBI single from Zachery Surace and then added another run on a wild pitch.

Greencastle made it 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth on a run-producing single from Grayson Booher.

Greencastle put the game away with a four-run fifth inning. Back-to-back bases loaded walks to Brinx Bonillas and Austin Luckenbach made 8-2, Brady Swain followed with an RBI single, and Greencastle added a run on a fielders choice to go up 10-2.

Greencastle is now 4-1 in the postseason and has scored 54 runs through five games while allowing 16. Pen Mar was eliminated with the loss.

NOTES: Greencastle Junior All-Stars fell to East Side 12-1 in the best-of-three Section 7 tournament opening game at Greencastle. The two teams will meet again on Wednesday night, with Greencastle needing a victory to stay alive. The game will be played at Horst Field at 7:00 p.m. A Greencastle win would force a deciding game on Thursday night…. Greencastle will host the Section 7 Little League Tournament July 12-15 at Clary Field. Dillsburg, Glenmore, and Warwick have already qualified for the four-team double elimination tournament, with the remaining spot to be determined on Thursday when Greencastle will play Newville or South Middleton.
