Big second inning leads Shippensburg to a win over Greencastle 11/12 All Stars

Shippensburg exploded for six runs in the second inning and defeated Greencastle 11/12 International All Stars 8-6 Wednesday night at Newville.

Greencastle had outscored opponents 38-6 through the first three games, including a 12-2 win over Shippensburg in the opening round on Friday night. While Shippensburg had been outscored 29-3, this time Shippensburg turned the tables on Greencastle to pick up their first win of the tournament.

Greencastle took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a Brady Swain sacrifice fly.

Jon Perdew hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to put Shippensburg up 2-1.

Greencastle tied it 2-2 in the top of the second on a Carter Wenger single.

In the bottom of the second, Jaxon Jones singled to make it 3-2, a two-run single by Tucker Sherman made it 5-2, and one out later, Perdew’s bases-loaded triple made it 8-2 Shippensburg

Greencastle picked up a run in the fifth on an RBI single by Brinx Bonillas, and three more in the top of the sixth on a run-producing single from Grayson Booher and a two-run double from Carter Wenger to cut the final margin to 8-6.

Greencastle outhit Shippensburg 11-6. Greir Barkdoll, Brinx Bonillas, Austin Lukenbach, and Carter Wenger each had two hits, and Wenger had 3 RBI.

Jon Perdew led Shippensburg, going 2 for 3 with 5 RBI on a two-run homer and a three-run triple.

Camden Ressler earned the win for Shippensburg. Ressler surrendered seven hits and three runs over four and one-third innings, striking out two and walking four.

Shippensburg finished pool play with a 1-3 record.

Greencastle, 3-1, advances to the District 14 single elimination championship on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. at Newville. They will play Pen Mar, who lost to South Middleton 7-5 and finished as the number two seed from West Pool Play 2. The game can be heard on Mid Penn Broadcasting.

On Tuesday night, South Middleton will play Newville. The winners of the first-round games will play on Wednesday, July 1, at South Middleton for the District 14 Championship and a berth in the Section 7 tournament.
