The Southern Fulton Indians baseball team opened the 2025 campaign with success as they bested the Bedford Bisons 7-3 on Friday night in Warfordsburg.
Bedford jumped on top of the hosts in the first inning after Southern Fulton committed an error, a fielder’s choice, and a single down the left field line, each scoring one run. Southern Fulton battled back and was able flip the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, scoring seven runs on two hits to take the lead, 7-3.
The biggest blow in the inning was a bases clearing triple by junior catcher Austin Mann.
Owen Oakman (1-0) earned the win for the Indians. The junior righty was lights out as he surrendered only one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out two and walking none.
Tedrow took the loss for Bedford. The pitcher went one inning, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out one and walking one.
Paul Hendershot started the game for Southern Fulton. The junior surrendered one hit and three runs (zero earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking two.
The Bison starting pitcher (Taylor) gave up two hits and two runs over four innings, striking out four and walking five. Mann went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Senior, Mark Fitz went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Southern Fulton in hits.
SF had a strong eye at the plate, piling up nine walks for the game. Mark Fitz, Jett Burger, and Trentin Cain led the team with two walks each. Joel Fitz stole two bases.
The Indians welcome the Everett Warriors for their first conference game of the season at 4:30pm on Monday, 17 March.
