BOYS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 65, Central Dauphin East 52: The Panthers stayed within arms reach for most of the game, but a 16-5 scoring advantage in the final quarter enabled the Trojans to pull away for a Mid Penn Commonwealth win Thursday night at CASHS Field House.
J.J. Kelly had a big offensive night, scoring 28 points. He had only 7 at the half, but scored 16 in the third quarter.
“CD East was coming off a really good win over Milton Hershey, which had just beaten Hershey,” Chambersburg coach Shawn Shreffler said. “They were very confident and played like it to start the game. We did a much better job in the second quarter to create some separation and carried that over into the third period as well.”
The Panthers (6-15, 2-11 MPC) led by 2 after one quarter. Alijay Cooper kept East in touch by scoring 25 points.
Landon Buhrman tallied 18 points for the Trojans (14-4, 10-3 MPC), winners of three straight, and Colton Cornwell added 12 points.
Shreffler said, “Once we got a decent lead, it was just trying to be solid down the stretch and understand time and score situations. It was a good win, but I definitely saw some areas where we need to get better. I was proud of how we competed because quite a few guys are battling sickness, but we still had a good effort.”
