Noah Ambrose hit two home runs and drove in five as the Greencastle 10-12 All-Stars defeated the South Middleton 16-0 on Wednesday. Ambrose hit a pair of two-run homers, one in the first and then again in the third inning.
Greencastle added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Ethan Allen singled, Brody Sprague grounded out, and Greer Barkdoll singled, each scoring one run.
Greencastle scored eight runs on six hits in the top of the sixth inning. Ambrose and Chase Cordell hit back to back run scoring doubles to put Greencastle up 10-0; Asher Horst followed with a run-scoring single and an error scored a run, and Greer Barkdoll drew a bases-loaded walk, putting Greencastle up 13-0. Ryan Emlet blasted a three-run triple, putting Greencastle up 16-0.
Mayze Gordon earned the win for Greencastle, going five shutout innings, allowing just two hits, striking out six, and walking three. Greer Barkdoll pitched a scoreless sixth inning.
Greencastle collected 17 hits in the game. Emlet and Ambrose each collected three hits for Greencastle. Cordell, Mayze, and Allen each collected multiple hits.
Kolston Piper stole two bases. Greencastle ran wild on the base paths, tallying six stolen bases for the game.
Greencastle turned one double play in the game. They were sure-handed in the field and did not commit an error for the third consecutive game.
Greencastle advances to the District 14 Double Elimination Tournament, which begins Monday, July 1.The winner will advance to the Section 7 Tournament in Reading, which begins July 14.
Greencastle and Pen Mar are the host sites. Greencastle’s win over South Middleton earned them the #1 Seed from West Pool A with a 3-0 record. Greencastle outscored their opponents 38-2 in pool play. The second seed from Pool A will be determined after the Shippensburg vs. Carlisle game on Thursday.
Newville and Pen Mar have already qualified in West Pool B in the four-team tournament.
