Fannett-Metal Sweeps Southern Huntingdon in Double Header

Fannett-Metal (13-4) got back on the winning track with two wins against visiting Southern Huntingdon on tuesday. The Tigers coming off their first loss in eleven games in the finals of the Altoona Curve Invitational Tournament had to work for the victory in the opener.

With the game tied 0-0 in game 1, the Tigers scored 2 runs in the bottom of 3rd of starter Chase Gibbons. Noah Naugle walked to lead off the inning and moved to third on an errant pickoff move to first. He would score on a wild pitch. The Tigers added a run when Tucker Seibert walked and moved to third on a Broc Hostler single. Seibert scored on Landon Arnold’s RBI sacrifice fly. The Rockets scored in the 6th to cut the deficit to 2-1 and had the tying run on third in the seventh inning when a lineout ended the game.

Tiger’s starter Wade Appleby went the distance for the complete game victory. He gave up 8 hits, and one earned run. He had 3 K and 2 BB. Chase Gibbons suffered the loss for SHC.

In game two the Tigers had 6 hits and took advantage of 14 walks to pull away for the 12-2 five inning victory. Adam Hammond had two hits and Daxten Detweiler, Noah Naugle, Broc Hostler and Jake Coffman all added a hit.

Drew Goshorn got the starting nod for the Tigers in game two and pitched all five innings. He gave up 2 runs(1 ER) on 2 hits, 1 BB and 2 K. The Rocket’s Bronson Hoffman suffered the loss.

The Tigers will travel to Mcconnellsburg on Thursday evening for a 7:00 game against the Spartans.
