G-A roundup: Softball team holds off Bubblers in 7th inning

Greencastle-Antrim 7, Boiling Springs 6: A 3-run bottom of the sixth gave the Blue Devils a 7-3 lead, then they sweated out a 3-run rally in the seventh by the Bubblers to pick up a Mid Penn Colonial victory at home Monday afternoon.

Greencastle (12-3, 10-2 MPC) got two hits each from its top three batters — Caroline Logsdon, Alexis Jones and Meadow Gambacurta, and Gambacurta knocked in a pair of runs.

In the sixth inning, Logsdon singled and went to second when Jones bunted for a hit. Both then came home on a triple by Gambacurta. Makayla Jerin then brought in Gambacurta with a base hit.

Kylie Kerns, Kindal Rice and Kaidyn Zimmerman also had hits and one RBI for G-A.

Mackenzie Wingert pitched the first 5 innings to earn the win for the Blue Devils, allowing 9 hits but only 2 earned runs. Paiton Gordon pitched the last two innings for a save.

The Bubblers scored three runs on 2 walks and 2 hits, plus a fielder’s choice in the seventh, but the potential game-tying run was thrown out trying to go from second to third base by centerfielder Kylie Kerns to end the game.

Boiling Springs 7, Greencastle-Antrim 5: A 2-run home run by Josh Snyder in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the Bubblers over the Blue Devils in a Mid Penn Colonial game Monday afternoon.

A 2-run blast by Matthew McNair in the fourth inning gave Boiling Springs (10-5) ahead 5-0.

But Greencastle (8-8, 5-7 MPC) rallied with a 5-spot in the top of the fifth inning. Jarek Szaflarski led off with a single and Carter McCauley reached on an error. Ethan Ford singled in a run and both runners moved up on a passed ball. Parker Funk’s base hit brought in two more runs.

After an out, Garrett Decker walked. Briggs Remenick hit a groundball single through the shortstop hole for a run, and the last run scored on a Bubbler error.

Avery Horst was the starter for G-A, and went 3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs. Jackson Bostic was charged with the loss after his 3.1-inning stint.

Blue Devils win 6 events: Geencastle-Antrim’s boys won 4 events and the girls added two more as Greencastle-Antrim hosted the Last Chance Meet at Kaley Field on Monday evening.

For the boys, Joel Amstutz dominated the 3200, winning by 46 seconds with his tim of 9:36.45. Other winners were Ewan Coy (1600, 4:46.11), Iyshone Coleman (400, 51.44) and Noal Parks (800, 2:02.0),

Jaylynn Schmuck captured the triple jump with a leap of 35-7, and the 4 x 800 relay team of Nyla Devaughn, Camryn Guthrie, Sophie Denlinger and Shalini Maharaj won in 14:22.77.

— Waynesboro girls: True Benchoff (100 hurdles, 16.46; 300 hurdles, 46.88); Jaeda Dockman (high jump, 4-11); Jada Creager (pole vault, 11-6)
