YORK SPRINGS — The Greencastle-Antrim girls basketball team took on the challenge of facing a strong Bermudian Springs team on the road Wednesday night in a non-league contest, and pulled off an impressive 59-58 comeback victory.

A 3-pointer from the corner by Rylee Henson with 37 seconds left provided the winning points for the Blue Devils (4-0), who survived a couple of missed shots by the Eagles at the game’s end.

“That was one of the top three basketball games I’ve been a part of,” G-A coach Mike Rhine said. “Bermudian is legit — they beat Lancaster Catholic and Trinity last week, they had two really good players and they led the majority of the time. But we battled back and everybody made a big play at one time or another.”

Greencastle rallied back from deficits of at least seven points three separate times, including late in the third quarter and again early in the fourth.

“I called timeouts there both times and told them this was when we had to respond … and they did,” Rhine said. “This is a special group of kids.”

During a timeout before Henson’s shot, Rhine worked up a play that the team hadn’t even practiced. Mia Libby had the ball at point guard and — with Haley Noblit closely marked — had three options: keep the ball on a drive, pass off underneath to Lauren Pool or kick it into the corner to Henson.

Henson was the third choice, but when she got the ball she made her shot count.

Bermudian Springs (2-1) was the top-ranked team in District 3 Class 4A coming into the game, and the Blue Devils (4-0) are now fifth in 5A.

“For a young team, we showed a lot of grit and heart,” Rhine said.

Noblit posted 22 points to lead Greencastle and added 3 assists. Libby put up 18 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. Pool had 8 points and hauled in 13 rebounds, Henson had 7 points and 2 assists and Ainsley Swindell hit a big three during one of the comebacks.
