William Simmers
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Cumberland Valley 3, Chambersburg 1: After splitting the first two games, the Eagles bested the Trojans in the final two to pick up a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory Wednesday at CASHS Field House.
The scores were in CV’s favor, 25-19, 23-25, 25-18 and 25-17.
“It was a tough match,” Chambersburg coach Marta Helfrick said. “CV came out aggressive on each point and we didn’t match their aggressiveness or energy.
“We couldn’t get a good offense going, which then broke down our defense as the match went. They’re a good team and you have to play more consistent volleyball to have a chance at winning.”
William Simmers had a fine game at the net for the Trojans (5-4, 4-3 MPC), converting 13 of 22 kill attempts and adding four block kills.
Steven Swain had 10 kills, 10 digs and 13 service points. Josiah Picard put up nine kills and led with 14 digs.
Trey Stepler filled the scoresheet with 23 assists, 10 digs and 10 points, while Wes Mewman had 11 digs and 17 points.
Also, Jaylen Thomas had eight kills and three block kills, Spencer Rajtik had 22 assists and Jacob Misal had a pair of aces.

Greencastle-Antrim 5, Chambersburg 3: In the completion of a game suspended by rain last Friday, the Blue Devils added one run Wednesday to finish off the non-league victory.
Logan Layton went the distance for G-A (3-4), striking out four and allowing five hits. The Trojans’ Elijah Snyder allowed six hits and fanned seven in six innings.
Chambersburg (1-9) scored three runs in the top of the first inning, with Hunter Stevens, Aaden Newman and Joey Maun earning RBIs.
Stevens had two hits for the Trojans, while Aaron Lutz had two for the Blue Devils.

Kenna Shearer
GIRLS LACROSSE
Mechanicsburg 15, Chambersburg 8: Five players reached the scoring column for the Trojans, but the Wildcats prevailed in a Mid Penn game Wednesday.
Ashlyn Bothe scored four goals for the Trojans (1-9, 1-7 MPC), and Molly Keefer, Emma Grimm, Ashlyn Barton and Ashley Bawell each had one.
Chambersburg coach Keara Allshouse said, “It was primarily a defensive game for us and our zone worked really hard to shut down many of their offensive drives. Our goalie, Kenna Shearer, had a season high of 11 saves. We worked hard on defense this week and it paid off.”
