DILLSBURG — The Mid Penn Conference held its annual Polar Plunge at Northern York on Friday and Saturday, giving swimmers one more chance at competition before the postseason begins.

The District 3 championships will be held March 1-2 at Cumberland Valley.

The highest area finisher in the Polar Plunge was Greencastle-Antrim’s Dylan Hermieux, who took second in the boys backstroke in 1:01.75.

Also for the boys, James Buchanan’s Jarred Moquin was third in the 50 free in 23.96 and fourth in the 100 free in 55.50.

Brenton Boyd was Chambersburg’s only point scorer, taking fifth in the 50 free in 24.71.

Shippensburg’s girls had four third-place finishes — Rachel Connor (50 free, 26.57), Connor (100 free, 58.36), Jordan Seymore (500 free, 6:01.99) and the 200 free relay team of Nicole Weaver, Abby Brink, Seymore and Connor (1:50.85).

Chambersburg girls coach Donnie Miller was happy his girls got another chance this season.

“On Friday, the girls competed in four races and all were best times,” Miller said. “The 200 MR team of Olivia Woolf, Megan Brandt, Genevieve Kuhns and Faith Asbury kicked things off by dropping 9 seconds off of their seed time to open the meet.

“In the 200 freestyle, Kuhns dropped a second off of her personal best. In the 50 freestyle both Lexi Fretz and Woolf established new personal best times.

“The girls’ commitment and work ethic the entire season have been reflected in time drops throughout the year, but these efforts have not always gotten the recognition that they have been owed. Tonight these girls performed wonderfully and deserve to be praised for all that they have achieved.”
