Trojan boys collect Gettysburg tourney title

GETTYSBURG — Chambersburg took the lead for good in the first quarter and never let Gettysburg pull closer than seven points in the championship game of the Gettysburg Lions Club Tournament on Friday night.

The Trojans moved their record to 6-3 by defeating the Warriors, 56-38.

Gettysburg (4-5) led very early in the game, but Chambersburg pulled ahead 20-10 after one quarter. The Warriors got their deficit down to seven points near the end of the first half, but never got closer in the second half.

With just over four minutes left in the game, Terell Williams found Tyler Collier open for a layup to give the Trojans their biggest lead of the game, 46-31. Collier scored at 3:27 from an Ethan Shreffler assist to make it 48-31.

Although the team missed several layups down the stretch, baskets on fast breaks by Williams and Ty Holsopple, after beating the Gettysburg press, resulted in clinching the victory.

Collier — who was named the tournament MVP — led the Trojans with 18 points, Shreffler — who made the all-tourney team — posted 15 and Holsopple added 8. Charles Warren led the Warriors with 12 points.
