BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Chambersburg beats CV, SC: The Trojan boys completed a sweep of a tri-meet on Tuesday on their home course, beating Cumberland Valley 20-38 and State College 20-37.

The wins sets up a likely showdown for the Mid Penn Commonwealth title next Tuesday at Chambersburg (4-0, 4-0 MPC) against Carlisle.

“The course was treacherous and slippery, so the times weren’t spectacular,” Trojan coach John Ambrosio said. “But overall, I was really pleased. Anytime you beat these two schools, you’ve got to be happy.”

Trent Overcash ran a time of 17:31 to place second, 19 seconds behind CV’s Luke Klingenberg. Chambersburg then stuffed the top 10 with four more runners — Orion Kimberly (4th, 17:53), Joe Corwell (5th, 17:53), Brayden Boyd (6th, 18:01) and Nick Monheim (8th, 18:13).

Ambrosio said, “Overcash was right with the winner for most of the race. Our gap from 1 to 5 was 42 seconds, and that’s outstanding. We keep getting better.”

Also for the Trojans, Justin Maxwell was 11th in 18:29 and Donovan Hazelton was 21st in 19:01.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Trojans split: Chambersburg turned in a tight 28-29 win over State College, but was defeated 25-32 by Cumberland Valley in a Mid Penn Commonwealth tri-meet.

Anna DeGrange placed fourth for the Trojans (3-1, 3-1 MPC), turning in a time of 22:01. Chambersburg also had the next two runners, Keira Whitehead in fifth (22:24) and Allie List in sixth (22:43).

Also scoring for the Trojans were Amelya Mauriello (11th, 23:04) and Maddie Kinton (21st, 23:57), while Emilea Alleman (22nd, 24:02) and Tara Hathaway (23rd, 24:16) also competed.

“We are a little short-handed right now,” Chambersburg coach Chris Monheim said. “We have two girls out and two who ran today who are not 100%. But we did well. We were right in the meet with CV and we had some bright spots. The highlight was probably that Allie List had her best day yet.”

Aaron Maynard

BOYS SOCCER
Chambersburg 3, Red Land 1: The Trojans scored twice in the first half and topped the Patriots to move their record to 3-2-1 (2-1 MPC).

Omario Duncan notched the first goal, in the 10th minute, from Luke Myers, and Duncan then assisted on a goal by Aaron Maynard. Two minutes into the second half, Andrew Quach tallied a goal, assisted by Emmanuel Hewitt.

“I thought tonight was a big game for us, because we had a tough stretch of games last week and didn’t get the results we wanted.  With Tyler Luther being out, we moved some players around to different positions. Maynard stepped up to the middle of the field and did a tremendous job for us and he also scored a big goal to give us a two-goal cushion.

“It was also nice to see Duncan get a goal tonight; he’s gone three in a row without one, so this will be big for his confidence.”

GIRLS SOCCER
Red Land 2, Chambersburg 1: The Trojans took the lead in the seventh minute when Lindsey Swanger scored off an assist from Brooke Huntsman, but the Patriots rallied for an upset win.

Chambersburg (4-3, 2-3 MPC) held a 10-8 edge in shots and goalkeeper Faith Johnson made seven saves.

Trojan coach Ed Franchi said, “My fear came true — after playing Cumberland Valley very tough, we came out completely flat. No energy, no movement, no communication. We have to learn to be more consistent and be ready to play every single game.”

GIRLS TENNIS
Chambersburg 5, Harrisburg 0: The Trojans raised their record to 5-3 with a non-league victory over the Cougars.

“It was a great start to three matches in three days,” Trojan coach Josh Barwin said. “We need to stay focused and mentally tough these next two days.”

Hope Sprecher and Madison Mellinger won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, while Caroline Hance took a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3.

Cally Papoutsis and Alexis Parra were 6-1, 6-1 winners at No. 1 doubles, followed by a 6-0, 6-0 whitewash by Julianne Grove and Sarah Guare at No. 2. Sprecher and Mellinger also won 8-3 at district doubles.

GOLF
Trojans win a close one: Waynesboro had a good day and pushed Chambersburg in a Mid Penn Colonial match at Range End in Dillsburg, but came up seven strokes short, 318-325.

“That’s probably as close as we’ve been for a couple of years,” Trojan coach Mark Yost said. “We played about as well as we had been, but Waynesboro played better than they had been playing.”

Chambersburg’s Karsen Rush fired his third straight 69, which was 2-under, despite making double bogey on No. 10. Grayson Hopple shot 82 to tie for ninth and Spencer Rajtik had an 83 to tie for 12th.

The other scorer for the Trojans (36-0) was Owen Reichelderfer, who shot a career-best 84 to tie for 14th.

“When Owen told me he shot an 84, I knew that had taken care of it,” Yost said. “That was a nice round for him.”

Waynesboro’s Devin Smith shot 75 to take third and teammate Brogan Beall had a season-best 78. For Shippensburg, Adam Maring had 79 for seventh and James Buchanan’s Caleb Reach was eighth with an 80.

The top girls player was Amanda Steier of Greencastle-Antrim, with a career-best 76.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Chambersburg 3, Red Lion 1: The Trojans ran their record to 7-2 with a non-league victory over Red Lion at CASHS Field House.

The Lions took a narrow win in the first game, 27-25, but Chambersburg roared back to win the final three, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-23.

“Red Lion is a scrappy team and they forced us to play,” Trojan assistant coach Bobby Culler said. “We lacked the energy that we typically have, but it was a good team win.”

Marlee Wrights posted 16 kills, followed closely by Ashley Adams — back from an injury — with 12, and Ally Davis added nine kills and 10 digs.

Robyn Stepler racked up 18 points, four aces and 28 assists, Ansley Runk had nine points and 16 assists and Taylor Myers produced 24 digs.
