The James Buchanan Lady Rocket softball team got its 2018 season off to a good start Monday with a 2-0 non-league win over Red Land.
The Rockets scratched across an unearned run in the first inning and tacked on a run-scoring single by Jenna Mongold in the third, which was all the offense pitcher Lizzie Pittman needed.
Pittman scattered 5 hits and struck out 7 for the complete-game victory. JB’s defense turned 2 double plays to help Pittman.
“Lizzie pitched well,” JB coach Troy Pittman said. “The defense was solid turning those two double plays.”
