GIRLS SOCCER
Chambersburg 4, State College 2: The Trojans emphatically ended a 7-game losing skid by handing the Little Lions a Mid Penn Commonwealth defeat on Friday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

Chambersburg’s previous high for goals in a game this year was 2.

Maddy Mills scored the opening goal about 10 minutes in after a quality through pass from Kennedy Beecher. Shortly after that, Kingdom McLatchy put the ball into the box and Lilah Upham kicked in a goal from about 15 yards out.

State College got a goal back early in the second half, but the Trojans (4-11, 2-9 MPC) retaliated when Claire Onomastico passed behind the line to her sister, Marley Onomastico, who knocked it in from 6 yards out. The Little Lions made it 3-2, scoring on a counter.

But with about 7 minutes left, Upham sent in a cross to the far post and Beecher was there to tap in the clinching goal.

Chambersburg coach Paul Unruh said, “We came out aggressively in the first half and it resulted in those two early goals. State College was strong to start the second half, and then it went back-and-forth from there. Lilah Upham had her best game of the season, playing in a more offensive role than usual.”
