GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Chambersburg 3, Williamsport 1: The Trojans changed their strategy because of the Millionaires’ strong play in the middle and ran off a non-league victory Saturday afternoon at CASHS Field House.

Chambersburg coach Ty Frelin said, “Williamsport is a pretty solid team and they put up a really big block out of the middle. That forced us to adjust and we did just that.”

Olivia Shearer was tough at the net for the Trojans (5-5), who broke a 4-match losing streak, scoring 22 kills and a block. Lexi Poe put down 10 kills and Lydia Zentz and Kylee Perry each had 7.

Perry also had 7 service points, 24 assists and 12 digs, while Poe had 7 points and 26 digs. Grace Myers hit the stat sheet with 12 points and 20 assists, and Natalie Miller had 9 points and 26 digs.

Chambersburg won the first 2 games, 25-16 and 26-24, Williamsport won the third 25-20 and the Trojans finished it with a 25-21 win in the final set.

Frelin said, “We bounced back after a long week of volleyball. We played well defensively and made the plays that were important. This was a big win for us.”

FIELD HOCKEY
Chambersburg 6, Central Dauphin East 0: The Trojans’ forwards played well on Saturday afternoon and helped the team roll to a Mid Penn Colonial victory over the Panthers at Trojan Stadium.

Libby Leonard

“I was really pleased with the way our forwards contributed today,” Chambersburg coach Rachael Sanders said. “We have several players who are capable of finding the back of the cage and it was great to see them come through.”

Reagan Barrett led the way with 3 goals for the Trojans (4-5-2, 4-2-2 MPC). In the first quarter, she knocked in a rebound off the goalie’s pads. In the third, she scored off a penalty corner from Ella Sollenberger, and later scored on another rebound.

Natalie Fitz scored on a lifted shot in the second period, and later banged in a shot from inside the circle after a pass from Barrett. Libby Leonard scored the team’s other goal early in the second half after a scramble in front of the cage.

Sanders said, “Reagan had a fantastic game and Natalie had two great finishes. Liberty (Leonard) continues to  provide a steady effort and finds ways to contribute. We’re starting to see more confidence and consistency from our attacking group, and that’s something we want to continue building on.”

Kingdom McLatchy

GIRLS SOCCER
Manheim Township 5, Chambersburg 1: The Trojans faced a tough opponent on the road Saturday afternoon and were handed a non-league defeat by the Blue Streaks.

“They are a high-quality side,” Chambersburg coach Paul Unruh said of Manheim Twp. (6-4-1). “We got behind 4-0 by halftime — we made some individual errors that led to goals.”

The Trojans (3-8) scored in the second half. Maddie Mills sent a pass into the penalty box, Ava Lemay pressured the Blue Streak’s keeper into a bobble and Malia Cramer chipped a shot over the keeper’s head.

Unruh said, “We came out in the second half and matched their intensity. It was great to have Lilah Upham back from injury, and Kingdom McLatchey had an excellent second half at right back.”
